Mat(ilda) the Musical
Tuesday, 9th September 2025. That was the day several other KS3 students and I took to the stage to audition for the school’s next Junior Musical - Mat(ilda) the Musical! As we are all boys in the junior part of the school, we decided to change several of the play’s characters - most notably, 'Matilda' became 'Mat.'
Fast forward to 23rd September. All roles were cast (I was the Escapologist), and we were all ready to start practising our first few songs. The atmosphere was electric; you could feel the mix of anticipation and nervousness as we all knew the next six months would fly by.
As completed songs were checked off, the number of scenes left to practise decreased. By the end of January, we were all ready to start ‘stagger-throughs’ (performing the full play but stopping and starting at points to change casts). The cast’s excitement as we finished our first run-through was immense - we had done it!
After 50 hours of hard work and dedication, the sound system and lights were all set up and ready to go. A theatrical buzz filled the air as we explored the set. On Thursday night, we began with Cast Maggots, who performed an outstanding performance to set the tone for the rest of the shows. Next up was Cast Chokey, followed by Maggots and Chokey yet again on Saturday.
Overall, the experience was fantastic! I really enjoyed being part of this production and I’m looking forward to the next show. A big thank you to all the teachers, cast and crew who made this show possible. Senior Musical 2027, here I come!
