The musical ‘Our House’, based on the well-known music of Madness and the hit It Must Be Love by Labi Siffre, is filling our stage with dazzling sights and sounds this year. With the last musical, ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’, being highly acclaimed by staff, students and visitors alike, there are big (dancing) shoes to fill.
Set in North West London the show starts on the 16th birthday of Joe Casey who along with his best mates, Emmo and Lewis, are looking toward to the future and what is waiting for them when “school's out”. Having to make a decision that will alter his life forever, the show follows Joe through two paths, the one where he made the “wrong choice” and one where he made the “right”. As “Good Joe” and “Bad Joe” both navigate their respective pathways, having to come to terms with the impact that their, seemingly, negligible choice has on the rest of their life, while at the same time, the ethereal presence of Joe's Dad comments from a distance as he compares his life to Joe’s.
A talented and hardworking cast, made up of students from Years 9 to 13 attending both DCGS and DCHS, has meant that all the drama lessons can be put to good use in a fun and memorable experience. Talents that can sometimes go unseen otherwise are put in the spotlight for all to relish. Rehearsing, occasionally up to six times a week has meant that the show is tightly choreographed and, with help from the live band who will be blasting some classic Madness tunes, sounds incredible. As a result of the behind the scenes work from the student-led tech team, the show is also visually fantastic and matches and exceeds the spectacle of the musical in previous years (or so we like to think!).
As such, we welcome you to the “House of Fun” to experience ‘Our House’ from Wednesday 20th to Saturday 23rd March 2019, at 7:30pm in the hall, where there are lots of laughs to be had and all the family will enjoy.
