Our A level students are celebrating the end of their school education today, as they receive their A level results. The cohort of 220 students should be delighted with their overall achievements, especially in the light of the extraordinary experience they have worked through over the last two and a half years. Having not sat GCSEs because of the pandemic, and dealt with two extended periods of home learning, the way they have responded to what has been asked of them this year has been exceptional. As a consequence of this the results of the cohort are spectacular. Over 75% of grades were an A or A*, with the commonest grade across the year group being the highest grade possible, an A*. All our Sport BTEC candidates secured the highest possible grade, a starred distinction. The credit for this lies with the students, supported by excellent teaching, a committed school staff and caring families. Nearly 90% of the cohort are off to their first choice of university, to study a wide range of courses. This includes traditional academic subjects such as Mathematics, Medicine and History, but also students pursuing their own particular interests in the creative arts, technology and sport.
Headteacher David Atkinson said ‘as a community we are very proud of this group of students. They have shown great resilience and undiminished aspiration as they have dealt with the last few years, and these results are entirely deserved. As a school staff we have thoroughly enjoyed working with them and wish them all the very best with their future endeavours. Their parents and families should also be very proud of them.’
Luke John, Daisy Jackson and Sam Longhurst, our School Captain team commented: “It is wonderful to see so many of our peers excited to take the next steps in their lives and we are immensely grateful for all of the support that the teachers and other staff at school have given us to not only achieve our results but to also grow into a group of kind and resilient young adults. It is a pleasure to be part of such a fantastic year group and we look forward to seeing what the future holds.”
