While we’re all stuck at home in isolation, I’m sure many of you will have started to catch up with some reading - and what better way to keep up with new book releases, bookish events in Buckinghamshire, and other literary news than with Bookcast!
Bookcast is a new publication from the Bucks Book Award, getting in touch with students via school libraries. This is a fantastic way to keep some limited contact with the outside world as it falls to pieces.
In the recent publication (link below) there was a summary of the Bucks Book Award announcement - involving a writing workshop by the poet Karl Nova, there was also a list of upcoming releases - some of which have already come out, for example, Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare. For those who have just studied Great Expectations by Dickens will appreciate the sheer number of references to Dickens’ classics within it (the name ‘Chain of Gold’ itself is a quote from the book).
Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day - Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
If you want to check it out, the link is below - there are many opportunities to get involved to send in your book reviews and opinions, so it may give you something to do while we’re all stuck at home.
